research shmesearch

I think the first search tool I used was an AOL search for Hanson chat rooms. That’s right. Of course I used google after that. For a while I preferred a search engine called “AllTheWeb” because they showed more in the picture search than google at the time. I use dictionary.com to make sure I’m using a word right and spelling it right. I don’t want to look like a TOTAL jackass, you know.
Two of my ex girlfriends found me by searching myspace. They are both now two of my best friends and I forget about how we met until something like this brings it up. It’s weird because when I searched myspace for lesbians I found a bunch of reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeetards.
I found a group called nonuglylesbians on LiveJournal by searching the communities. The love of my life Rudi found me through that community.
Thank you, Mr./Mrs. Internet, for completing my life.
…and for porn.

Hanson chat rooms huh? I haven’t heard about those kids since highschool, which was a long time ago for me. I do remember AOL being the first ISP I ever used, and at the time being amazed at what all I could find by searching for it through them. Now I would rather set fire to myself then have to mess with AOL. Funny how things change.

Speaking of weird people finding you on Myspace, one of my Bolivian cousins apparently found me on there and sent me a message. Since I hate Myspace with every fiber of my being, I hadn’t checked on that until another cousin of mine (one in Baltimore; yes, I have far too many cousins) called me and told me that. I’m also not too fond of that cousin, the former one mentioned, so I wasn’t too happy about that either.
I, too, used AOL first. Doesn’t everyone have fond memories of trying for months to cancel their service, yelling for hours at stubborn customer service reps? Thanks for bringing up some nice, repressed memories. I thank whatever higher power that is up there that I was never into Hanson, however.
Funny how, when I was writing my own article, I forgot about finding other people. That does count as a form of research, so I really shouldn’t have skipped that over. Thanks, now I’ll proceed to bang my head against the wall for the next few minutes.

huh….for some reason I never considered AOL as a search engine. But I guess it is. AOL is the first and front runner of search engines and on line culture. Eventhough you can get free e mail through gmail, yahoo or net zero, people will pay the money for AOL because it is the name brand of internet access.

I really never considered Myspace as a research tool, but I suppose you can look up information there. Interesting thought.
